What will he look like? (Ally's first post!)

Hello Friends:
Some people have been asking what our little guy will look like. I try to describe the "classic" Ethiopian features: rich, caramel colored skin; fine features, small nose, triangular shaped face (wide forehead, narrow chin), dark brown/black hair, dark brown eyes. If any of you all want to see what a REAL Ethiopian baby looks like, go to the right under "Blogs we're watching" and then click "Ethiopia or Bust" or "Baby Faulkner". Scroll down and you'll see some beautiful babies! BUT that's not why we're adopting from Ethiopia!
The reason is, I have always had a "heart" for Africa. The whole continent seems to be the underdog of the world- it seems cursed. They have AIDS, malaria, famine, tribal warfare, measles, ebola, genocide... the list is endless. And my sense of justice is strong- so I always think of African people as those who are worthy of our empathy. I know there are terrible things that happen in every country, but I tend to focus all of my energy on Africa for some reason. Some would say that "God put it in my heart". Perhaps that's what it is... or maybe it's all those episodes of Doctari that I watched as a child. (Does ANYONE remember that show? I haven't found anyone yet...) It was about African missionaries and I was just enthralled with all the wild animals and the jungle. I am also affected by a favorite teacher (let's all give a shout-out to Mrs. Mahaffey!) who served with her doctor husband as a missionary in Nigeria for 5 years... her stories were fascinating, the photographs unforgettable.
SO the reason we chose Ethiopia is because it's the only country in Africa from which Americans can adopt. And we are just as pleased as can be that our little son (maybe daughter) will be a native African.
